Time: 10.30am - 4.30pm

Who's it for? This workshop will give yoga teachers the necessary knowledge and teaching tools to safely and seamlessly include pregnant women into their general yoga classes. In the ideal world all pregnant women would attend a dedicated pregnancy yoga class. In practice this is not always possible. Pregnant women often want to continue with their trusted yoga teacher and class, or they simply can't get to a pregnancy yoga class. It can also be challenging to make a pregnancy yoga class continually financially viable as numbers can fluctuate. In practice it can make more financial sense to incorporate pregnant women into a general yoga class. This workshop is suitable for all yoga teachers (qualified and currently in training) from any tradition or training with/or studying a minimum RYT200 certification. It would ideally suit teachers who do include pregnant women in their general classes, and feel they'd benefit from some support and a few clever tips. It would also act as a good foundation for any yoga teacher or trainee teacher considering training in pregnancy yoga or those teachers with specialist pregnancy yoga training who are looking for CPD training hours relating to their training. This course would also be of interest to pilates teachers and personal trainers.

Workshop content:
- Pregnancy: brief summary of the stages of pregnancy and the impact on the body.
- Safe yoga guidelines for practice in the second and third trimester of pregnancy.
- Yoga in the first trimester: to practice or not?
- Common asanas and how to modify simply for a pregnant woman or offer alternatives.
- Pranayama: safe yoga guileless for pranayama in pregnancy and useful modifications.
- Common complications in pregnancy and precautions and prohibitions when practising.
- When should you not include a pregnant woman and what are the possible alternatives you could offer?
Handouts included in CPD workshop
- Preganancy yoga surya namaska for 2nd and 3rd trimesters.
- 6 useful asanas and exercises to give a pregnant women.

The day will be a mixture of theory and practical tasks, with a focus on experiencing the theory through physical practice, so please come prepared for physical work as well as lots of listening. Amy is very passionate about ensuring women have access to high-quality pregnancy yoga classes, and if they are attending a general yoga class they are included safely and successfully. She hopes this workshop will give yoga teachers the tools to include pregnant women in their general yoga classes, allowing as many pregnant women as possible to have access to yoga.
