What is Yoga?
The name yoga comes from the Sanskrit word yuj which can be translated to unite, to join or to connect. Yoga aims to connect your mind, body and spirit through the physical practice of asana (posture), breathing techniques and meditation and relaxation methods.
Asanas are the physical postures of yoga. They help to create strength and flexibility, bringing awareness to your physical body, and can help you to move and feel better. Yoga is a great practice for every one of all ages, it is a myth that you need to be flexible to practice yoga! Yoga is non-competitive and completing the full posture is not the end goal, it is important to listen to and honour your body during your practice to avoid injury.
Yoga unites the physical body with the mind through Pranayama (breath control), meditation and relaxation. Yoga aims to still the mind and release it from the stresses of everyday life.
Yoga has benefits for everyone. It feels better to have a fitter, more flexible body and can help you to control and manage the stresses of everyday life.
